Central Belters

Glasgow’s Mogwai have never done anything in a small way. Their towering post-rock is rife with gorgeous, swelling crescendos (“Helicon 1”), frenetic, calculated explosions (“Mogwai Fear Satan”) and vast depths of emotion (“Devil Rides”). The career-spanning compilation Central Belters reflects the band’s preference for the monumental, packing in nearly four hours of highlights. It’s a long, tempestuous ride, but the heart-stopping (and tear duct-filling) drama doesn’t relent for a second.
